US National Association for Music Education appoints Deborah A Confredo as its President-Elect

Members of the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) in the USA have named the 42-year veteran music educator Deborah A Confredo as their President-Elect for the next two years.

Confredo is the Professor of Music Education and Director of Online Graduate Studies in Music Education at Temple University and has been NAfME’s Chair of Research in Music Education until now. She has taught at elementary, middle and high school levels in instrumental music in New York and Pennsylvania and has been a music teacher educator at Illinois State University, University of Illinois and Temple University.

Confredo has set out a bold programme of initiatives for her two-year tenure and as a former member of the Louisiana Music Education Association’s Council of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, she has a particular interest in broadening the accessibility and inclusivity of music teaching across the USA.

The NAfME membership was also asked to elect regional presidents and chose Kim Bruguier, an elementary teacher from South Dakota, as President of the North Central Division; Susan L Smith, a 25-year veteran at all levels of music education, as president of the Southern Division; and Michael D Stone, instrumental teacher and Visual and Performing Arts Coordinator for 41 schools around Bakersfield, California, as president of the Western Division.
