World Choir Games to include virtual participation for the first time

Event organiser INTERKULTUR has launched a 'Virtual Competitions' strand to enable all choirs worldwide to participate online

Event organiser INTERKULTUR has launched a ‘Virtual Competitions’ strand to enable all choirs worldwide to participate online.

With the coronavirus pandemic continuing to have a major impact on international travel, the organisers of the 2021 World Choir Games have created new digital options for participation by choirs in the forthcoming 2021 World Choir Games. which take place from 30 October to 7 November.

Singers can present themselves on a virtual stage in various categories: Children’s and Youth Choirs, Adult Choirs, Pop/Jazz/Gospel/Spiritual and Folklore. Choirs are asked to film their performance as if it were a real competition performance. This means that all competition pieces must be sung one after the other, without interruption, and recorded simultaneously.

Alternatively, choirs can compete in the Video Clip (Virtual Choir) section. Here, a ‘Virtual Choir’ video is required, with singers recording their voices individually and filming themselves doing so. In post-production, all the voices are combined to form a large choir. The Virtual Choir competition is offered in the A Cappella and With Accompaniment competition categories.

INTERKULTUR will also set up a Virtual Village to enable singers to follow the in-person event in Flanders online.
