South African youth choir joins line-up at Summa Cum Laude Youth Music Festival in Vienna

Kearsney College Choir, based near Durban in South Africa, is making its first international tour since Covid regulations shut down singing

Kearsney College Choir is competing in the Summa Cum Laude Youth Music Festival in Vienna, with venues including St Stephan’s Cathedral, the Musikverein and the Music Theatre of the Vienna Boys Choir and the University of Music in Vienna.

The renowned Summa Cum Laude festival has returned after a Covid-related absence of two years. The 2022 edition, taking place from 1-6 July, features participants from Bulgaria, Germany, Israel, Italy, South Africa, Spain and Switzerland over the six days of the event.

Kearsney College Choir has earned no fewer than 15 gold and seven silver medals at the World Choir Games between 2000 and 2018. Awarded ‘Prize of the City of Vienna’ at the 33rd International Youth and Music Festival in Vienna, the choir has also won first prizes in international choral competitions in Hong Kong, Germany and Austria.
