Singapore Symphony Orchestra’s 2023/4 season features choral highlights

Singapore Symphony Orchestra (SSO) has announced its new season line-up, with a rich programme of performances running from July 2023 to June 2024 including several concerts focussing on choral repertoire.

The Temasek Foundation SSO National Day Concert in August will feature the combined orchestral and choral forces of SSO, Singapore Symphony Chorus, Singapore Symphony Youth Choir and Singapore Symphony Children’s Choir in a programme showcasing Singaporean composers.

Events in Victoria Concert Hall’s VCHpresents series include choral items. Singapore Symphony Chorus will perform works by various composers during VCHpresents Organ: A Haunted Halloween Hymn on 28 and 29 October 2023, and VCHpresents Chamber: Sunday Afternoon Fancies on 25 February 2024 will feature the Singapore Symphony Youth Choir and musicians of the SSO in a performance of English choral and string pieces.

The season will culminate on 20 April 2024 with one of the acknowledged masterpieces of choral repertoire, Brahms’ Requiem. Together with the Schumann cello concerto, the programme will be performed by the Singapore Symphony Chorus, Singapore Symphony Youth Choir, Singapore National Youth Orchestra, Australian cellist Li-Wei Qin, Swedish soprano Susanna Andersson and Danish baritone Bo Skovhus.
