Institute of Sacred Music at Oxford to offer new qualifications

St Stephen’s House, Oxford has launched the Institute of Sacred Music, offering a postgraduate diploma and master’s degree in Worship and Liturgical Studies. Validated by the University of Durham, these qualifications are expected to become some of the most sought-after in liturgy and worship for musicians worldwide.

The courses are available to church musicians, music ministers, clergy, and laypeople with previous musical and theological experience, with hybrid tuition offering a combination of residential and online modes of study.

One of the course modules, Christian Worship and Human Community (‘A study of music’s power to enrich diverse human communities, embracing worship with adults and with children’), is being delivered in partnership with The Royal School of Church Music (RSCM) in the form of ten, two-hour lecture-seminars (‘The RSCM Lectures’).

RSCM Director Hugh Morris said, ‘Music is such a powerful, transformational tool for the church and its mission and this is a wonderful opportunity to bring aspiration to tangible life.’
