Improve your performance, theory, production, and technology skills, take a workshop in our state-of-the-art campus in Valencia, Spain, and network in a multicultural environment. The program provides an opportunity for both Berklee and non-Berklee students from around the world to earn undergraduate college credit from Berklee.
Berklee College of Music’s international campus in Valencia, Spain, offers a comprehensive summer music performance program in July of every year.
The Spain Summer Performance Program is open to all musicians at least 15 years old who have a minimum of six months instrument or voice experience. Whether you are an experienced performer or someone who has never been in front of an audience, you can improve your performance skills by attending. In a supportive and creative environment, our top-notch teachers encourage you to push your vocal and instrumental performance skills to new levels and define your musical voice.
For two weeks, you will be immersed in all aspects of performance. Your classes, workshops, and rehearsals will focus on this important element of being a musician. You will play in ensembles, develop improvisational and reading skills, improve your technique in weekly lessons, and enjoy lectures and demonstrations by well-known faculty and visiting artists. Students will also participate in production and recording workshops with top-notch engineers and producers on the Valencia technology team. To conclude the program, students will give a final concert that all are invited to enjoy.
One unique component of the Spain Summer Performance Program is the opportunity to experience the diverse and vibrant music of the Mediterranean region. Students will have the option to participate in group classes, workshops, and ensembles focused on many musical styles, including flamenco and others from the Mediterranean border.
Coming to the Spain Summer Performance Program will give students a big-picture view of what it takes to become an excellent musician. Our goal is for you to leave here with an understanding of what being an excellent musician entails, from having instrumental, harmonic, melodic, and rhythmic skills to knowing recording and production techniques. All of this will be taught in the vibrant cultural center of Spain, and in one of the most prestigious contemporary music institutions in the world.
Classes generally will run from 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., with two sessions of classes before lunch and one session after lunch. Workshops and concerts or jam sessions will take place in the late afternoon and evening. Other optional activities that take place throughout the program also happen in the afternoons, such as music industry sessions, and others.
Classes and the calendar are subject to change.
During the program, there will be the opportunity to perform at the final concert in Un Lago de Conciertos. The Lago de Conciertos happens on a floating stage, just in front of the Príncipe Felipe Science Museum, located in the City of Arts and Sciences, where the campus is also located.
