Having recorded ‘Grandstand’ for the BBC’s ‘Football Focus’ introductory sequence earlier in the day, the band played a series of familiar tunes ranging from ‘Blue is the Colour’ to ‘Uptown Funk’ with the crowd singing along on ‘The Post Horn Gallop’. But of particular poignancy was the presence of the B Positive Choir, who joined the band to sing ‘Abide With Me’.
The B Positive Choir was created by Colin Anderson and Lurine Cato in conjunction with NHS Blood and Tranplant bringing together 60 singers who suffer with, or have family or friends who suffer with Sickle Cell Anaemia. Formed to raise awareness of the disease, the choir has performed at the MOBO Awards, St Pancras Station’s Christmas entertainment, The Commonwealth Service at Westminster Abbey and starred in Britain’s Got Talent.
The Emirates FA Cup pre-match ceremony included the Guards performing the National Anthem with Becky Hill singing in the presence of HRH The Duke of Cambridge.
The musicians were also allowed to stay to watch Leicester City beat Chelsea one-nil.
