RSCM Annual Lecture: Parry’s I was glad, with Prof Jeremy Dibble

The leading Parry expert, Professor Jeremy Dibble, presents the 2022 Royal School of Church Music Annual Lecture, Parry’s I was glad: the reinvention, ritual and pageantry of the modern coronation.

Composed for the coronation of King Edward VII in 1902, and sung at all following coronations, this majestic, much-loved anthem is being included this year in countless services and concerts as we celebrate the Platinum Jubilee of the RSCM’s Royal Patron, Her Majesty the Queen.

As well as looking at the original composition, Jeremy will lead us through the changes and developments following its initial use in 1902 and also of each and every coronation since.

Over the past twenty years Jeremy Dibble has edited many RSCM publications, including the RSCM edition of Parry I was glad, Songs of Farewell and Hear my words, ye people.

This event will take place both in person (at Holy Sepulchre Church, Holborn, London) and online on the RSCM YouTube channel.
