NYCGB’s (National Youth Choirs of Great Britain) annual Inspiring Voices Appeal has been given a boost between now and 7 December with up to £27,000 of match-funding if the charity can hit the same target.
The Inspiring Voices appeal supports about 20 percent of NYCGB members who would otherwise be unable to afford to travel to auditions, rehearsals and concerts, or pay membership, course or audition fees. Over the years, this has given hundreds of young people opportunities to develop skills, experience choral singing and benefit from the educational, well-being and social outcomes of being part of the choral community.
Every year, the charity raises over £180,000 to help young people overcome the financial challenges of experiencing learning and singing with one of the country’s most celebrated choral groups. But the Big Give has challenged NYCGB to raise £27,000 in one week, which will be matched if they hit the target.
The Big Give was founded by Sir Alec Reed in 2007 to provide a search engine for charities and a secure way for individuals to give online. Every year it runs a Christmas Challenge to double £1 million worth of donations to about 900 charities.
This year, NYCGB is one of those and all funds raised will go towards providing bursaries for 50 talented young singers to join one of its programmes in 2022.
