DESCRIPTION:The International Society for Orthodox Church Music (ISOCM) will organise the Tenth International Conference on Orthodox Church Music: ‘O Taste and See that the Lord is Good: Church Music, Food, and Nourishment’ in cooperation with the UEF School of Theology on 12–18 June 2023 in Joensuu, Finland.\nThe Conference programme features academic presentations, musical workshops, concerts, and divine services. Scholars, composers, singers, choir directors, and enthusiasts of church music are invited to participate on site or online.\nThe topics of the conference include:\n\nChurch music and hymnography and the execution thereof as spiritual and/or physical nourishment\nThe materiality of spiritual nourishment: Holy Communion as a physical manifestation of the nourishment of the spirit\nFood metaphors in hymnography\nFast and feast in church music and hymnography\nRelated questions dealing with Eastern traditions of a liturgical or paraliturgical kind, for example, the kolyva used at memorials for the departed, the Holy Supper served in some traditions at Christmas, artoklasia (litiya), Paschal Artos, the blessing of fruits, and Vasilopita\nThe understanding of the nourishment provided by food and drink as parallel to that provided by the composition or intoning of spiritual/liturgical texts\nLocal traditions and transmissions\n\n
